OLL on the VAT rate increase: What will happen to physical activity when students are already skimping on medicine?
Published:Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) demands that the VAT rate increase of sports services be abandoned. The Government’s proposal being deliberated by Parliament would increase the VAT rate of sports services from 10 per cent to 14 per cent. The increase in VAT rate – and consequently in service prices – is implemented in a situation where more than half of university students are exercising too little (THL 2021).

OLL suggests including student exercise as a strategic target for municipalities and wellbeing services counties
Published:The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) calls for wellbeing services counties and municipalities to consider students as a separate group in exercise promotion. The Federation offers councillors four solutions to encourage residents to be more physically active.

A challenge from FISU Forum to improve equality in student sports
Published:The major international student sports event FISU World Forum took place in Zagreb, Croatia at the end of August. Finland and the Finnish Student Sports Federation were represented at the event by student of health promotion and FISU Student Ambassador Tia Saharinen and the OLL’s Head of Communications Niko Peltokangas.

Published:The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) is reminding people in September and October of the importance exercise in maintaining and improving study ability.

Ida Bolander returned as secretary general of OLL
Published:Responsibilities at the office of the Finnish Student Sports Federation changed when Ida Bolander returned from a study leave in July to the position of secretary general. Niko Peltokangas, who acted as Bolander's deputy, returned to the position of communications specialist.

One medal and many great moments
Published:The European Universities Championships (EUSA Games) have come to a close in Debrecen and Miskolc, Hungary. Finnish athletes won one medal and achieved many rankings.

Finnish students aim for two medals at the European Universities Championships
Published:The European Universities Championships will be held from 10 to 24 July in the cities of Debrecen and Miskolc in Hungary. Comprising 18 events, the EUSA Games bring together around 5,000 athletes from European higher education institutions. The Finnish team consists of 69 students competing in five sports. Finnish Student Sports Federation has set the team a target of two medals, the same as in the preceding Games two years ago in Lodz, Poland.

International SELL Student Games to be held in Vierumäki in 2025
Published:The SELL Student Games for higher education students will be held at Vierumäki Sports Hall from 15 to 18 May 2025. Founded in 1924 and revived in the 1990s, this celebration of student sports in Finland and the Baltic countries will be organised for the 40th time next year.

The Jukola Relay message was dedicated to the hundred-year-old Finnish Student Sports Federation
Published:The orienteering festival The Jukola Relay, which was held at Kauhava on 15th–16th June, dedicated its orienteering relay message to the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL), which is celebrating its centenary this year. The message thanked the Federation for its persistent work to promote an active lifestyle.

The Finnish Student Sports Federation’s new membership model makes headway: a service design project leads to concrete results

To achieve truly impactful collaboration, the Federation will now invite universities to become ordinary members alongside the student unions. Advocacy pays off: One million euros for promoting sports and physical activity in higher education

Apply for the European Universities Championships 2024
Published:The European Universities Championships are held every two years in connection with the multi-sport event European Universities Games and every two years as separate European Championships. 2024 will be the year of the European Universities Games. Around 5,000 athletes from across Europe will take part in the European Universities Games. The Games also offer a great opportunity to test the level of European elite sports, as many national team-level athletes will be taking part in them. The athletes will represent their own higher education institution in the Games.
