OLL’S new environmental responsibility programme encourages the sports sector to work together for the environment
Published:The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) has released its environmental responsibility programme. Work on the environmental responsibility programme began in 2018, and it was implemented in April 2020.

OLL’s finance committee has begun its work
Published:At its General Assembly 20‒21 November 2019, the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) decided to appoint a Finance Committee for the Federation. The Federation’s Board elected the Committee members based on proposals made by the member organisations, and the Committee held its first meeting on 28 April 2020.

Higher Education on the Move programme launching – join us!
Published:The Schools on the Move programme, which has been very popular at lower school levels, is finally expanding properly into higher education. The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) is about to launch a three-year Higher Education on the Move 2020‒2022 programme in cooperation with the universities and universities of applied sciences.

Moving speeches, discussions on equality and metaphors from space
Published:The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL), which gathered at the University of Jyväskylä 20–21.11.2019, has elected a Board of five to lead the federation’s activities in 2020.

The OLL General Assembly in Jyväskylä brings together the people active in the student sports and exercise sector on 20–21 November 2019
Published:Representatives of student unions and associations across Finland will convene to decide on the future of student sports at the General Assembly of The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) held at the University of Jyväskylä on 20–21 November 2019. The General Assembly defines what kind of operations and advocacy work will be conducted to promote the physical activity of students especially next year. The General Assembly also elects the OLL President and Board for the next year.

Funding for sports in the budget session
Published:The Finnish government’s budget session is over. Together with SYL and SAMOK, we were on watch at The House of the Estates during the budget session on 17 September 2019. The purpose of us being at The House of Estates was to remind the arriving negotiators to give some thought to students during budget negotiations.

OLL got the government negotiators moving
Published:On Wednesday 15 May 2019, the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) took part in the government programme watch, which was organised by the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) and the University of Applied Sciences Students in Finland – SAMOK. OLL had a strong presence all day and promoted its aims for the government programme in a visible way. In front of the House of the Estates, one could spot the #studentsonthemoveNOW banner, which aimed to remind the negotiators of our wish to extend the Students on the Move programme properly to all higher education institutions.

OLL is working to promote exercise in higher education through values and acceptance
Published:Many of us feel guilt and other negative feelings because we do not exercise enough. Increasing the amount of exercise is a major lifestyle change, and it can feel like a constant battle against ourselves and the circumstances. A frustrating internal battle makes exercise even less tempting. This is not how it should be!

Ministry of education and culture grants 215,000 euros for the development of sports in higher education
Published:The Ministry of Education and Culture has granted a total of 215,000 euros to six different projects with the aim to develop sports in higher education. The annual national development grant for an active lifestyle was awarded to the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL), the University of Vaasa, and the universities of applied sciences in Kajaani, Lahti, Seinäjoki and Satakunta. The projects of the higher education institutions include activities which aim to start sports services, create a more active operating culture, and reach students who do not get enough exercise.

OLL’s election panel debate #studentsonthemoveNOW: the Finnish parties support extending the Students on the Move programme to higher education institutions during the next parliamentary term
Published:On 13 March, the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) held an election panel debate on sports with the parliamentary election candidates in the Palm room (Palmuhuone) at restaurant Lasipalatsi in Helsinki. The panel debate, called #studentsonthemoveNOW, tackled the challenges of and looked at solutions to making higher education institutions more physically active.

Hard facts, balloons and new acquaintances at the sector meeting
Published:This year’s first sector meeting was held in Helsinki after the sports tutoring day. On the first day of the sector meeting, the parliamentary elections were on the agenda and getting to know the new student union Board Members in charge of sports. At the same time, we filmed OLL’s election video. We will tell more about it later.

Recognition and spark at OLL's anniversary party
Published:The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) celebrated its 95-year-long existence in Helsinki on 2 February. A large number of OLL’s most important interest groups, partners and alumni over the years took part in the anniversary celebrations.

Published:The average student sits for approximately 11 hours per day. These extreme numbers are influenced by the higher education environment which makes students passive, forcing them to sit in lecture after lecture without refreshing breaks that are important for their health. Here at the Finnish Student Sports Federation, we demand that the Studies on the Move programme should include the entire higher education sector in the coming government term.
