International SELL Student Games to be held in Vierumäki in 2025
The SELL Student Games for higher education students will be held at Vierumäki Sports Hall from 15 to 18 May 2025. Founded in 1924 and revived in the 1990s, this celebration of student sports in Finland and the Baltic countries will be organised for the 40th time next year.
The SELL Student Games are held annually, rotating between Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The games bring together around 1,000 participants. Nowadays, there are no results-based qualifying margins in place, meaning that any higher education student can take part in the games. There is a good range of events on offer, including volleyball, disc golf and more.
“Education and sport are at the heart of our strategy, and it’s great to be involved in supporting student sport in the form of the upcoming SELL Student Games. I’m confident that together with Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, we can offer participants a unique experience in the recently renovated Vierumäki facilities,” says Jukka Tiikkaja, the chief operating officer for education, sports and exercise of the Sport Institute of Finland Vierumäki.
“We have an excellent organiser for the games, both from the point of view of the venue and the event experience,” says Markku Rantahalvari, who is the event and training specialist of the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL).
The main organiser of the games is the Finnish Sports Institute in Vierumäki, supported by OLL. When held in Finland in past years, the games have been held in Otaniemi (2008 and 2012) and Hervanta (2004 and 2016). The 2020 SELL Student Games in Lahti had to be cancelled at the last minute due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Finnish students aim for two medals at the European Universities Championships

Comprising 18 events, the EUSA Games bring together around 5,000 athletes from European higher education institutions. The Finnish team consists of 69 students competing in five sports. Finnish Student Sports Federation has set the team a target of two medals, the same as in the preceding Games two years ago in Lodz, Poland.

Gold and two bronze medals at the European Universities Orienteering Championship
Published:Ten Finnish athletes took part in the European Universities Orienteering Championship held in St. Gallen, Switzerland, at the end of August. Now being held for the second time, the participants had high praise for the organisation of the event.
